I keep having a yearning for a yellow gold Sub- I just wondered what the general feeling was towards this model..... they don't get much exposure on the forums, is this because they are so expensive or because they look crap and no one likes them? http://www.rolex.com/en#/rolex-watch...m116618ln-0001 Reply With Quote 31st August 2012,  00:46 #2 zodiac View Profile View Forum Posts View Blog Entries View Articles Journeyman Join Date Jul 2006 Posts 220 Would certainly love to have a 1680/8 nipple dial sub! Such a watch draws much attention and wearing it means making a very strong statement indeed, and might give a wrong impression you don't want. Can't make my mind up on this one, would I like one -yes, do I think it looks fantastic - not really, but there is definitely something about it. The problem with the yellow gold models is they are so often fakes worn by Del Boy types. I love the older ones. I can imagine a tanned 1970's playboy in the South of France sporting one while on his yacht with a bevy of bikini clad beauties cavorting around ... No-one bats an eyelid with a stainless model, they are so very common after all. I found with my 16613 that everyone who notices it (which is far from everyone- not everyone is interested in watches in case you have forgotten), assumes it's fake, and I don't mind to correct them. Basically OP, it's a very nice watch in an uncommon colour for the UK at least, in other parts of the world "a Rolex" is not important. A GOLD Rolex is! DO IT! It always feels that gold Rolex's are iconic/ironic but if you have the balls to wear one they can look very cool. But that Rolex is ironically (and iconically) cool and if I could afford one I would wear it with my sleeves rolled up and not give a monkey's about other peoples' perceptions. I like it! I have had the same craving for quite some time now, so know exactly how you feel! I really want one, and will probably hunt for a 16618 if a trade opp comes up - and like others have suggested, I think in the beginning, it wouldnt hurt to wear it with a strap and save the bracelet for later or maybe never :-) Reply With Quote 31st August 2012,  22:15 #29 walkerwek1958 View Profile View Forum Posts View Blog Entries View Articles Grand Master Join Date Jul 2007 Location Wakefield, West Yor kdcorsvu. 2015 daytona 500 tickets for salekshire Posts 13,662 Gold Rolex sports watches just don`t look right IMO; too brash and flash. The bicolour ones work fine IMO, particularly the 16613 Sub with black dial. Really can`t think where and when I could wear a gold Sub.....just wouldn`t do it for me. Not sure I'd wear it out in public much though, a gold watch on a gold bracelet is a bit too brash a statement for me (Swiss Tony anyone?). I'm undecided on two tone Rolex, I saw a guy at work wearing a TT Black Sub and it looked stunning from a distance. I then brought a TT Invicta Sub homage on ebay to get an idea what TT would look like on my wrist but it looks really bling & awful. It could just be because it's a crap Invicta homage but it has put me off the thought of buying a two tone Rolex a bit (not that I can afford one at the minute anyway). As a pastey Brit, I would look totally ridiculous. So I don't object to the watch, but it's not for me. (BTW I think the "African dictator" is more likely to wear a YG Datejust or President). Northeen Europeans are better off sticking to the WG Sub. The very harsh lighting in the shop did the YG no favours. It's definitely a bright natural light watch, no use for dreich Ayrshire. ______ Jim. I like the submariner but don't think I would wear it. If I bought a hold watch I would have to get one with a leather strap to balance out the gold.
